To help modernize the Indian textile industry, a number of equipments are being fully exempted from basic customs duty, such as automated shuttle looms, while lower customs duty is being proposed for some other items used by the textile industry under the Union Budget 2012-13. The government has implemented various schemes, such as Textile Upgradation Fund and Scheme for Integrated Textiles Park (SITP) to help domestic businesses. For instance, under the SITP, 40 textile park projects have been approved thus far with another 21 parks scheduled under the 12th Budget Plan.
